#Have Done List 2024
Writing the last editorial of 2024, I’m reflecting on the radical shifts in power happening at different places in the world. As leadership professionals we’re always looking at how these shifts impact the world around us and focusing on what we can influence with the people we live and work with.
To do so, there’s still a lot of work to do, listed on my to do list. Sometimes I add things to my ‘to-do’ list that I’ve already done, simply because it feels good to check them off. A childish pleasure, I have to admit. That brief triumph of accomplishing something I initially dreaded is incredibly motivating.
As we approach the finish line of 2024, the inevitable need to reflect on the past year increases, along with the pressure to come up with New Year’s resolutions—aka to-do lists—for 2025. I’ve decided to nurture my inner child and create my ‘Have Done List 2024’: a collection of tasks I procrastinated on for various reasons—fear of failure being the biggest—and that now make me really proud, both big and small.
- Partnership with Daria officially arranged – I hate paperwork and financial admin, but i’m so happy it’s done!
- Quitting a client project that didn’t bring me joy – making a clear choice and creating space for what I really want to do.
- Storytelling workshop with the team – making our Better Future story even stronger.
- Writing a LinkedIn post about the impact of a project – it’s loud out there!
- Adding strength training to my weekly sports routine – not just running anymore.
- Scheduling a meeting to be upfront about the conditions under which I’d take on a client project – no going back anymore, setting clear boundaries.
- Participating in a writers’ retreat – finally committing to writing that book and making progress!
- Asking for help with the next steps in writing – because I don’t have to do it alone.
- Ice skating lessons – facing my fears head-on.
- Hiking a portion of the ‘Pieterpad’ with a close friend – finally done, despite my packed schedule.
- Organizing dinners with our network and +1s – when good people meet, great things follow.
What if you allow yourself to write down your list and be honest about why you procrastinated, what would that look like?

Wat lijken die hoogopgeleiden toch op elkaar! (Dutch only)
What do people with lower levels of education and those with higher levels of education think of each other? On which issues do they see eye to eye, and on which don’t they? Our guest is sociologist Quita Muis, who conducts large-scale research into the opinions of Europeans and Dutch citizens on all sorts of important matters, ranging from abortion to immigration. In doing so, she made a surprising discovery about how polarization really works.
A roundup of personal essays, short stories – surprising, disarming, heartbreakingly funny – from the bestselling writer David Sedaris. Time named him America’s Favorite Humorist.
One story in particular “Six to eight blackmen” is an interesting reflection on the Dutch Holiday Sinterklaas from a foreign perspective.
Perhaps we should, for once, take a moment to acknowledge that a lot of things are going well. Especially when you compare it to the past. Because no matter how bad things might seem now, the past wasn’t always better. In fact, most things were worse back then.
